Introduction to Scouting
The following video should help you understand with some of the terms and phrases that you might be unfamiliar with related to Scouting.
Please note that our pack provides the following to all new scouts:
- A pack T-Shirt that can be used for informal events; also known as a Class B uniform
Please contact your Den leader or a member of the Pack committee if you have not yet received these items.
Packs and Dens oh my!
Cub scouts are organized into dens and packs. The Scouting website has additional info on how Cub Scouting is organized.
A small group of Cub Scouts who are the same gender and in the same grade. The ideal size is 6 to 8 Cub Scouts.
Den Leaders
An adult, usually a parent, serves as a Den Leader. They carry out the activities related to adventures as they are presented in the Cub Scout’s handbook and the Den Leader Guide.
The pack is made up of several dens. The make up and size of the pack varies based on local interest and resources. Each pack is identified by a number.
Cubmaster
The leader of the pack meeting is the Cubmaster. In addition to serving as the master of ceremonies the Cubmaster provides support to Den Leaders.
Made up of parents, leaders, and other caring adults the pack committee works to support den leaders and the cubmaster.
Pack Committee Chair
The top volunteer in the pack is the Pack Committee Chair. They are responsible for ensuring enough qualified adult volunteers are in place to provide the program. They lead the pack committee meetings.
This is the organization that partners with the Boy Scouts of America to deliver a Scouting program. They adopt Scouting to serve the youth in the community.
Chartered Organization Representative
This person appoints the Pack Committee Chair and approves all adult leaders. They provide resources from the chartered organization.
Cub Scout Adventures
Cub Scout advance by completing adventures. Most adventure requirements can be met by attending one or two meetings; while some of the requirements need some additional at-home work.
See below for a full list of adventure by Den (grade) level.

The cost of Scouting
National Dues
Pack 102 is chartered by the Lake Erie Council of Scouting America. Each scout that joins the pack has to first pay National Dues to Scouting America. This is collected online when you register your scout through the online registration link.

Pack Dues
The pack also collects additional funds in order to help offset costs associated with running all our meetings and adventures and to ensure that we have the materials to track progress through the cub scout adventures as well as the materials needed for moving up at the end of the school year.
New scouts do not owe pack dues until May when all the scouts participate in the moving up ceremony coinciding with the end of the school year.
